“Quicksand,” directed by Andres Beltran and written by Matt Pitts, follows the journey of a couple on the verge of divorce as they travel to South America. The film’s prologue in the rainforest sets a thrilling tone but loses its impact with disorienting fast cutting and an overwhelming score. While Carolina Gaitán and Allan Hawco deliver compelling performances, the script lacks the depth needed to fully invest the audience in their relationship struggles. As the couple becomes stuck in the rainforest, the film explores the theme of reconciliation amidst peril, but it falls short of providing a truly gripping and emotionally moving experience. “Quicksand” needed more focused direction and a stronger screenplay to reach its potential.
