Director Bishal Dutta’s feature debut, “It Lives Inside,” is a supernatural horror thriller that follows Sam, an Indian-American teenager who unintentionally releases a demon preying on her former best friend’s loneliness. Sam must come to terms with her Indian heritage to confront this sinister entity. While the film’s premise is promising, it falls short in execution, feeling derivative and overly cautious. Nevertheless, “It Lives Inside” remains watchable and somewhat entertaining, primarily due to Suri’s strong performance as Sam. Bajwa and Gabriel contribute emotionally rich supporting roles, and Dutta successfully builds a creepy atmosphere filled with tension. The film relies heavily on jump scares, which are often ineffective. While it commendably represents Indian culture in a horror context, it fails to deliver the expected chills.
