Blood Vessel 2023

Brad Anderson’s “Blood” attempts to serve as both a grisly horror thriller and an exploration of situational ethics, presenting an impossible scenario to viewers and prompting them to consider their choices. Regrettably, it falls short on both counts, lacking the necessary horror intensity and failing to engage as an ethical study. Michelle Monaghan’s central performance as Jess, a nurse navigating a contentious divorce while dealing with a life-threatening situation involving her son, stands out amidst the film’s shortcomings. The central theme of a parent’s extreme actions for their child’s survival is introduced but lacks coherence, making Jess’s decisions feel inconsistent. Anderson, with a history of successful horror films, struggles with a convoluted plot that concludes with unintended laughter rather than fear. Despite Monaghan’s commendable effort and a few noteworthy scenes, “Blood” ultimately disappoints, unable to fulfill its potential and leaving the audience wanting more from its intriguing premise.
